An exhibition of original drawings created by Kazutaka Miyatake, a pioneer of “Mechanic Designer” in Japan’s animation industry, is scheduled to be held in the Memorial Ship MIKASA. Miyatake’s works include very famous titles such as “Super Dimension Fortress MACROSS” and “Bye-Bye Jupiter”, and he is now living in Yokosuka city. There will be about 50 original drawings.

Yokosuka Sangyo Matsuri (Industry Festival) is scheduled to be held on November 8 and 9. This is a popular annual event introduces a wide variety of products and services of enterprises located in Yokosuka city. Of course, there will be a lot of food stands of superb local foods. Plastic model building class for children is scheduled to be held at Memorial ship MIKASA. It is free of charge and intended for elementary school children of 4th grade or higher; however, younger children accompanied by a guardian can participate as well. It is first-come-first-served basis and limited to 30 children. It is recommended to come a little early to hold a seat!

The 52nd Model Ship Contest Exhibition is scheduled to be held at Memorial Ship MIKASA. All the model ships exhibited were handmade by elementary school students in Yokosuka City.

Memorial Ship MIKASA had originally kept 28 naval ensigns that battleships fought in Battle of Tsushima hoisted, but some U.S. servicemen had taken them as spoils of war when they moved back to their home country. However, on August 5 of this year, one of the naval ensigns was returned to MIKASA by a sincere, courageous 91-year-old ex-serviceman who lives in Arizona, mediated by a non-profit humanitarian effort “OBON 2015″ and US Marine Raider foundation. This naval ensign is largest-sized (3.4 meters by 5.2 meters), and it is thought to be the one belonged to Battleship ASAHI according to the records.

The CD of “The Battle of Tsushima 100th Anniversary Memorial Concert” held at Yokosuka Arts Theater on May 16, 2015 is now available! It is 2,000 yen (tax incl.). Enjoy the brilliant performance of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Band, Tokyo any time!

In Memorial Ship MIKASA of Mikasa Park, the summer break special event “Children’s Museum” opens from Saturday July 18 to Sunday August 30! This event is created for elementary school and junior high school students, offering a variety of events such as photo session in military uniform, hammock, stamp rally, and traditional Japanese hand fan making. Also, there will be some special attractions limitedly offered during the period!

Toro Nagashi is a Japan’s traditional event for ending Obon. People release candle-lit lanterns into river to guide spirits of ancestors that revisited their family in Obon back to the other world. Mikasa Park’s Toro Nagashi started its history in 1946, and this is its 70th event. Approximately 1,300 lanterns will be released from 10 fishing boats on the coast by the park. In addition, sutra chanting Buddhist memorial service will be offered by collaboration of 18 temples from Yokosuka Chuo Bukkyo-kai.
